Meet the Team

Hugh is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and an associate member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management. He has worked in the entertainment industry

for the last 30 years.

In 2004, Hugh set up an electrical contracting business in Essex, which became incorporated in 2006.

This business became HPES Technical Solutions Ltd, and he is proud to have helped launch the careers of some highly skilled electricians and project managers.

Hugh has been involved in numerous prestigious projects over the years.

The common theme across them is that Hugh and his team take time to communicate clearly with their customers, understanding their requirements and ensuring they are detailed correctly. It is this that has

built trust in the business and all members of the team.

From specialist compliance software development, and dimmer replacement in boutique hotels and theatres, to power quality analysis and electrical compliance inspections in data centres operated by

global companies, Hugh and his team are known and trusted to ensure a job is conducted correctly.

Richard joined HPES from The Gillian Lynne Theatre in the West End. He has 30 years of experience in this environment, having worked up through the ranks to the role of Chief Lx.

By the time he decided to move to the new and exciting challenge of working in an installation environment, he had been a Chief Lx for 22 years. During his career, he worked at some of the largest and most prestigious theatres in London including Theatre Royal - Drury Lane, The Duchess, The Apollo, and The Garrick. In addition, he has provided his expertise on a freelance basis to many more.

With day-to-day experience in team management and Health & Safety, Richard assists HPES to provide a smooth and reliable service to all of our customers. He has a considerable record of bringing projects in, to time & budget in theatrical production and built environment settings.

Richard enjoys the variety and diversity of work at HPES. One day standing in a field, testing generators, the next up a tower PAT testing in a hall to sitting at home helping draw a job tender up.

Kieran  is a JIB Electrical Gold Card holder. Since joining HPES, much of Kieran’s time has been spent in theatrical environments. He is proficient at considering the condition of existing installations for compliance. This is both in production equipment and for general power and lighting.

Kieran gained his background in electrical installation working in the field of automated image recognition. His technical experience and practical abilities are a good fit for the variety of work that HPES undertake.

Kieran is cool, calm & collected in even the most stressful of situations. The perfect colleague to have by your side when up against time pressures or complex fault finding.

Happiest at outdoor event testing and if it’s a Golf Course, even better!

Dave is an accomplished electrician with more than a decade of experience fault finding, installing, and maintaining equipment in theatrical and other venues. These range from primary school stages to prestigious west end theatres.

His vast experience in testing and inspection of outdoor events ensures he is a familiar and reassuring figure on the numerous festivals and sporting events that we attend throughout the year.

Dave loves a challenging job and enjoys the satisfaction of successful complex fault finding.

Nick started with HPES in 2019 as an apprentice. He has flourished under his team leaders and gained his NVQ 3 in early 2024. He also holds the C&G 2391-52. On completion of his AM2 assessment, which is scheduled for April 2024, he will be eligible for a JIB Approved Electricians Gold Card.

Since starting with HPES, Nick has embraced the field of theatre and entertainment; he regularly volunteers for the lead inspector role on prestigious outdoor events and theatrical EICR inspections.

Nick enjoys the well-known events that HPES are often a part of and is happiest in a field, MFT in his hand with the camaraderie that goes alongside this type of work.

Mark is a former theatre flyman who came to HPES following more than 15 years working in a professional theatre in Kent. He has, in the couple of years, that he has been part of our team, become very electrically proficient and aware. With particularly good practical and problem-solving abilities, his no nonsense approach, ability to think outside the box and physical abilities always ensures a safe and efficient solution while maintaining the required pace of work.

Mark loves being in the open air of an outdoor event but feels most at home in a theatre, 10+metres up on a fly floor or grid.

Ted joined HPES in 2021 and is a polite and engaging team member. His knowledge, experience and confidence are rapidly developing. He attends college weekly on a day release basis and is becoming an asset to his colleagues as he becomes more proficient and capable.

Ted is happiest in a theatre although he does enjoy being part of the large motor sport events HPES often work on.

In 2004 Sarah helped to set up an electrical contracting business which in 2006 became HPES Technical Solutions Ltd.

Having worked in the Entertainment or Hospitality industry since 1990, her focus on customer service and her understanding of what is needed within the Entertainment Industry has become part of the HPES ethos.

She has taken on a more encompassing role since 2019, as the business has grown and enjoys the diversity of her role.  Working with the guidance of our fantastic Business Development, Accounting and Marketing experts, Sarah is excited to be a part of HPES’ future alongside our growing team.
