Inspection and Testing

Many licensing authorities and insurance companies require some form of periodic electrical inspection. HPES can tailor an inspection and testing program focused upon safety, statutory requirements and budget.

For many international temporary events, we are regularly asked to scrutinise the design, construction and robustness of electrical systems for national global television and radio broadcast.  In such situations, our methods are clearly designed and agreed with all parties to help ensure safety and reliability.

Our approach will differ depending upon the site and the specific requirements meaning that the service given will be most appropriate for the specific electrical installation.  On completion we’ll present you with agreed documentation.  This may be either a tailored narrative document or usually an Electrical Inspection and Condition Report (EICR), containing a full schedule of test results and a prioritised list of defects.

Over subsequent years, we like to inspect a fixed percentage of the electrical installation, building a relationship of trust with our client base.  The exact manner depends upon the system but means that the entire system is regularly looked over, minimising disruption and helping to identify issues as they develop.

There are circumstances where a full EICR may not be appropriate or your business can’t tolerate downtime e.g. electrical intake inspections. In such cases we can arrange for backup power generation with the option of a temporary UPS. When it comes to “mission-critical” plant, we can perform thermographic surveys while equipment is in-use to help identify loading issues and lose connections.

As an NICEIC Approved Contractor we can advise on the most cost-effective ways to resolve defects and maintain compliance, based on your immediate priorities and long-term plans.

HPES can help you with:

Compliance with licensing and insurance requirements

Managed minimal-downtime inspections of critical systems

Schematics and schedules for existing installations

Electrical Inspection and Condition Reports (EICR)

Servicing and inspection of theatrical lighting equipment

Prioritisation and costings for remedial works

Live Events

HPES is one of the UK's most comprehensive providers of certification services to BS7909 and beyond. Our experienced team regularly provide expertise for international sporting events, major music festivals and broadcast installations.

Since our formation in 2004, we have developed and refined a unique and systematic approach to testing, configuration and inspection to ensure the safety and reliability of complex power systems. We employ staff with specialised training and bespoke testing kits to provide an efficient, industry leading service that can scale from a single generator to the largest and most prestigious outdoor events in the global calendar.

Prior to the London 2012 Olympics we made a significant investment in custom mobile software that has been constantly updated to keep pace with changing standards and more efficient methods of working. Common electrical safety issues are automatically escalated in real-time to be reviewed and dealt with at the earliest opportunity. Automatic collation of inspection data and as-installed schematics allow our Qualified Supervisors to spend less time on administration and more time focusing on critical electrical matters.

HPES can help you with:

Design, specification and configuration of temporary power systems

Complex earthing and bonding scenarios

Fulfilling the Principal Duty Holder role, as defined by BS7909

On-site PAT testing

Inspection and testing to BS7909 standards and beyond

Design and monitoring of production and broadcast power systems

Electrical safety inspections for temporary structures
